Resistance Month

October has been declared "Resistance Month." But what could Christians and other followers of the same God be resisting? Well, the answer is pretty clear: the suppression of our voice in public places.

Years ago, people would simply say "do not discriminate against religions in a public place, like work, school, or organizations and businesses." But over the past few years, things have become much more sensitive. Instead of "not discriminating against" other religions, these places have simply decided to get rid of it in general. For example, many places now call their annual Christmas trees a "holiday tree". Although students at schools are allowed to miss school for religions practices, they are frowned upon when they talk about thier faith in a classroom.

At this point, the question must be asked: Why?

In an effort to be politically correct, people are trying to get religion out of these public places. Or, so they think. But if someone was discussing their faith with another man from across their cubicles at work, would it really be offensive to the man in an adjacent cubicle who had no faith at all? Much of the time, the people establishing these "politically correct" ideals are not even being offended personally. For example, we all remember when a group of people were able to get the Illinois University Fighting Illini's mascot, a dancing Native American, to disapear. But the poeple who were angry about it weren't Native American at all! In a similar example, the popular children's group "Indian Guides" is now being re-named "Adventure Guides" by a white man. Indian Guides is not a society devoted to harassing and making fun of the Indians: it is first and foremostly a group that prides itself in preserving the Native American Culture.

In some cases, the idea of being politically correct in hopes of not offending anyone is actually suppressing a lot people from freely expressing themselves or their beliefs.

Although there are no federal laws that outlaw discussion and such of religion, it is still acted out that way in some places, and in many workplaces/schools, they have their own rules that forbid it.

So what is Resistance Month?

Well, the whole point is to resist this idea of suppression. Don't be afraid to show your religion this month!

But what can YOU do? Well, it's simple. At your workplace, go ahead and talk openly about your faith in our Lord Jesus this month. Perhaps you will find another devoted follower of Christ, and the two of you can discuss together! Odds are, there is someone who feels the same as you, and simply isn't showing it. Now, im not saying to go preach the Word to your entire office, and by no means am I suggesting that you loose your job by doing something you're not allowed to do. But be open about your faith!

Now the place where religion is hardest to express is in schools. Not only do many schools have rules against expressing religion, but many students simply don't understand religion, or it is something to be made fun of for them. This is the hardest environment to express religion in, but it can also be the easiest.

Here are some ideas that I know are going on at a my local high school.
Leave sticky notes around with A bible verse on them. At the end, put the following website... www.efcn.us the efcn website is devoted to bringing in new Christians, and will help them out. If not that website, leave THIS website's adress that you are currently at. My friends and I would be happy to answer any questions that ANYONE has. You can write the same thing on every note, and as you walk through the halls, leave them everywhere: stairwell railings, lockers, doors, door handles, on desks, on chairs, EVERYWHERE!! It's like a game. Try to put out as many as you can!

I hope your resisting goes well, and that you are able to spread the word to people, and possibly bring a few more people farther away from Hell and closer towards the light that is God.

May God be with you.
